Description: The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) is a North American labor union representing technicians, artisans and craftspersons who work behind the scenes in live theatre, motion picture and television production, broadcast, trade shows, concerts and related equipment and construction shops. Its mission is to improve members’ wages, benefits, safety, working conditions and training through collective bargaining, member services and industry-wide standards. Type: Labor union Policies: Collective bargaining and labor standards, workplace safety and health rules for entertainment production (including turnaround and rest periods), wage floors and benefit protections, retirement and healthcare fund stability, protections for freelance and gig workers in the industry, production tax and incentive policy, and workforce development and apprenticeship programs. Funding: Primarily funded by member dues and employer contributions to negotiated benefit and pension funds, supplemented by investment income and political action contributions where applicable. Affiliates: Affiliated with major labor federations such as the AFL–CIO and the Canadian Labour Congress, and composed of numerous local unions and guilds including the International Cinematographers Guild (IATSE Local 600) and the Motion Picture Editors Guild (IATSE Local 700) among others.
