The National Pawnbrokers Association (NPA) is the primary U.S. trade association representing pawnshop owners and operators; it provides industry education, professional development, member services and government relations to protect and promote pawnbroking as a regulated consumer-lending and retail service.
Advocacy on state and federal regulatory and licensing matters affecting pawnbrokers, consumer-lending and short-term credit rules, collateral and secondhand-goods regulation, public-safety and pawn-reporting requirements, taxation and business compliance issues, and policies that affect small retail lenders and local small businesses.
Primarily membership dues from pawnshop owners, supplemented by revenue from conferences and trade shows (Pawn Expo), sponsorships and industry advertising, publications and training fees.
State pawnbroker associations, the NPA-run Pawn Expo and National Pawnbroker Magazine, industry partners and sponsors (examples include companies active in precious-metal refining and retail-security services), and an elected board and executive leadership drawn from prominent pawnbrokers.
