About the Organization

Oceana is an international non-profit organization focused on ocean conservation and restoration through science-based advocacy and policy campaigns. The group works to end overfishing, reduce bycatch, stop plastic and chemical pollution, prevent harmful offshore development, protect marine habitats, and secure stronger fisheries and ocean governance at national and international levels.

Policy Goals

Advocacy for sustainable fisheries management, creation and enforcement of marine protected areas, reduction of plastic and chemical pollution, limits on offshore oil and gas development, bycatch reduction, responsible shipping and seabed protections, and climate-resilient ocean policy at national and multilateral levels.

Funding

Primarily funded by philanthropic foundations, individual donors, and grant support from charitable organizations.

Regional Oceana offices (for example Oceana Europe, Oceana Canada, Oceana Mexico, Oceana Chile, Oceana Philippines), partnerships with scientific institutions and environmental NGOs, and notable public supporters such as actor Ted Danson.
