This bill would keep current federal North Atlantic right whale fishing rules in place until 2035 instead of letting them expire in 2028. That would delay tougher whale-protection changes for Northeast lobster fishing. Lobstermen and related businesses could face fewer new costs and less disruption, helping protect jobs and local seafood economies. But it could also slow new efforts to reduce harm to the endangered right whale.
