About the Organization

The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) is an international trade association founded in 1973 that represents the interests of independent owner-operators, small trucking fleets, and professional truck drivers across the United States and Canada. The organization advocates for a fair business climate for small-business truckers, promotes highway safety, and works to ensure that truckers are treated equitably in federal and state policy and regulatory decisions.

Policy Goals

OOIDA typically pursues legislative and regulatory policies related to trucking and transportation, including highway safety standards, hours-of-service rules, electronic logging device requirements, truck insurance and financial responsibility regulations, small-business protections, infrastructure funding, and federal and state motor carrier regulations affecting independent drivers and small fleets.

Primarily funded through membership dues from owner-operators, small fleets, and professional drivers, as well as revenue from member services such as insurance and related programs.
