About the Organization

Save Our Schools Arizona is a statewide advocacy organization that organizes parents, educators and community members to defend and strengthen Arizona’s public K–12 schools. The group runs community organizing and voter-engagement campaigns, produces research and communications on education finance and policy, and leads opposition to voucher and privatization measures while supporting local school funding efforts.

Policy Goals

Typically pursues policies to increase and equitably fund K–12 public schools, keep public dollars in district public schools, oppose universal Empowerment Scholarship Accounts (ESAs) and private-school voucher expansions, support bond and override measures, recruit and elect pro-public-education school board and legislative candidates, promote transparency and accountability in education finance, and defend educators and inclusive curricula from politicized attacks.

Funding

Primarily funded by individual and grassroots donations and small grants from foundations and nonprofit funders (historical funders include Opportunity Arizona and Independent Arizona), supplemented by political contributions and fundraising through its affiliated PAC for electoral and ballot work.

Affiliates

Affiliated with Save Our Schools Arizona Network (a separate 501(c)(3) education and research arm) and a Save Our Schools Arizona PAC; key leaders include Executive Director Beth Lewis and Operations & Finance Director Catherine Sigmon.
