About the Organization

Public Citizen is a nonprofit public-interest advocacy organization founded in 1971 to represent consumers before government and corporate interests. It works through research, lobbying, litigation, and public campaigns to promote consumer protection, corporate accountability, transparent government, and stronger health, safety, and financial regulations.

Policy Goals

Consumer protection, corporate accountability and antitrust, campaign finance and government transparency, healthcare and drug safety, financial regulation, environmental and product safety, workplace and transportation safety, and litigation to enforce regulatory standards.

Funding

Primarily funded by individual donations and membership contributions, supplemented by grants from philanthropic foundations and moderate public-interest fundraising; does not rely on corporate funding.

Affiliates
